Create a Transparent Civil War Ghost Photo
![]() |
Learn how to copy one image and place into another image with a transparent ghostly look.
1. Open Adobe Photoshop and go to File > Open and select the image, "The One Which Will Be The Ghost", you want to insert into another photo.
2. Click on Image > Image Size and set the size to fit into your target photo.
3. Select the Magic Wand Tool
and click on the background of the picture. With the photo I used, I had to click a few times around the image to select it all. Note: this only works if there is enough contrast between the background & the subject of the picture. In this example, I changed the background of the image to all white so I could use the Magic Wand.
4. Right click on the image and select "Inverse".

5. Press Ctrl+C to copy the selected part of the image which should be the subject of the picture.
6. Click on File > Open and select the picture which you want to place the copied selection.
7. Press Ctrl+V to paste the image into the new picture as a new layer.
8. Click on your "Layer 1" and set the "Opacity" to 31%. You can adjust this number to suit your look and feel.

9. Click on Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the radius to 1.5 pixels to blend it into the photo.
10. The finished photo should look something the image below.
