introduction:
This tutorial is of a moderate difficulty, and requires a basic understanding of the tools in photshop. We're going to enhance a car.
requirements:
Adobe Photoshop 6 or higher
target result:

step 1
Let's start with a picture of a car of your choice, I chose a porsche.

step 2
We're going to start with a paintjob, keeping it smooth and simple, select your Polygonal Lasoo Tool. We're going to take the outline of the entire car, other than the wheels.

step 3
Create a new layer, call it 'Tone'. Keeping the selection up on this new layer, go to your gradient tool. Set your foreground colour to the top colour of your car by using the colour selecter.

step 4
Set the background colour to a similar, but darker colour, it's your choice as to what colour you use, I chose a darker shade of my original colour. Now you have your colours chosen, use your gradient tool and drag it from top to bottom. My result was the following:

step 5
Set your 'Tone' layer style to overlay, and you'll have a smooth tone on your car's paint job.

step 6
You may want to take your rubber tool and remove the gradient from the 'Tone' layer from the windows and lights, leaving the 'paint job' just on the metal.

step 7
Create a new layer, call it 'Tints' and take your Polygonal Lasoo Tool again. Select round your windows individually, each time you have a full window selected, fill it with black.
