The text effect we are about to make can be used for almost everything, it is the perfect text for website banners.
1. First open up your canvas and add your text (any size) using the Horizontal Type Tool. The text I used was Arial Bold. To get the best look best use two colours, one for each word (not essential). I've chosen Blue and Orange for this effect.

2. Now duplicate your layer (Right click your text layer and select Duplicate Layer). Change the colour of the text in this new layer to white.
Next rasterize the layer, do this by right clicking the layer and selecting "Rasterize Type". Then change the layer to Overlay (Scroll box above the layers which by default says "Normal") and move the layer down 1 pixel (Press the down arrow key on your keyboard once while the layer is selected).

3. To make the shine effect look good click your marquee tool and use the following settings:

4. Next create a selection with the marquee tool at the bottom of the original text layer like this and press delete.

5. Now we repeat that. Select the white text layer and click your marquee tool again but this time change the "feather" setting to 5 and create the selection at the top of the text. Delete the selection like you did before. After you have done this you should have the following:

6. For the final step, go back to the original text layer and apply the following settings by right clicking your layer and selecting "Blending Options...".

There we go you have just created what might be your first professional looking text banner. Enjoy!
