Rock texture - Photoshop tutorial

Easy way to create an awesome rock surface. You can leave it in classic grey or color it with any color easily.

We will create realistic rock surface in photoshop using this tutorial. I've simply used the concept of lighting effect to a layer to get this rocky surface.

Step 1

Create a new photoshop document with of the size you prefer. I've chosen 1024*768. Add clouds to this default background layer by selecting render clouds from filters menu.

Step 2

Now add come noise to this layer from the filters--->noise--->add noise and choose the values in the dialogue box as given below.

Step 3

Now in order to give this layer a rocky effect, we'll create a new channel in the channels pallette. Add some diference clouds to this channel and add some noise to it. Let the values for the noise remain the same as previous step.

For this new channel, Choose edit--->fade add noise and keep the values as given below. After this , if you wish, add difference clouds reapetedly so that different patterns of rock can be made.
