Sleek Navigation Buttons

This tutorial will show you how to make a sleek button in photoshop which can be easily adapted as a page navigation bar.
PSD files and several free navigation bars are included for download here.

Step 1
Crate a new file depending on how large you want your button. I’ve made mine 300px x 50px.
Set the background colour to transparent.

Step 2
Select the rectangle tool. Drag this over your canvas to create your button.

Step 3
Right click your layer and choose Blending Options.

Select Gradient Overlay, click on the gradient, and create something similar to this:

Select Stroke. Click the box beside colour and fill with a darker shade of your button.

Click OK to return to your canvas.

There you have it! A sleek button.

Step 4 - Optional
For a navigation bar, you may want to divide up your buttons. You can achieve a 3D effect using simple two-pixel strips.

  3. Hello, your navigation bars are beautiful. I’m new at Photoshop so I’m not quite sure how I’d add another section to a navigation bar - would you just copy and paste the layer, move the layer so the new section shows and then merge the two layers?

    Thanks much.

  4. Sorry, Please ignore my question above. I hadn’t yet opened the PSD file. Thanks again !
