Tutorial goal:
In this very easy to learn tutorial, I'm going to show you how to use clipping mask to adjust an image against another one. In this example I have used a mirror, but you can use anything, such as the top of a table, etc...

step 1
Source 1 and Source 2 that will be used at that work
step 2
Select the inner part of the mirror - you can use to select:
magic wand / quick selection tool (CS3) / Lasso / Pen tool as path....
step 3
CTRL + J to copy the selection to another layer
step 4
Drag the source 2 against the mirror. Do not matter with the size now
step 5
Now adjust the size of the layer 2 using CTRL + T (after Ctrl+0 if the image is to large) or transform...
OBSERVATION: You can use CTRL + T or transform after used clipping mask(next step), with exactly the same result

My intention at that tutorial is not, "make that work using that"... But how to useclipping mask.
At Photoshop we have a lot of different ways to obtain the same result...

you didn't use a layer mask instead. It seems like it would have done the job just as well...
