Tutorial goal:
In this tutorial I will show you a different sharpening method. We will be sharpening our image in Lab Color mode. Therefore, affecting only the luminosity values of an image.

Open up your image.

What you need to do next is go to Image > Mode > Lab Color.

Next, we have to select the luminosity values of the image only. Press Control-Alt-1 to select the lightness values only. Next inverse the selection by using the keyboard shortcut Shift+Control+I. And finally, press Control+H to hide the selection.

Now, make the lightness channel visible only. Next, go to Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask

For this particular image I used the following values:
Amount: 140
Radius: 2.5
Threshold: 2
Last thing you need to do is press Control+D to deselect, since the selection is still there, its just now visible. You can than go back to RGB mode if it is necessary. I hope you learned something new from this tutorial.
