In this tutorial we'll create a shiny red navigation bar that you can use to give a nice look to your navingation menu.
I hope you'll be satisfied with the result when it'll be completed.
You might think it'll take long, instead I can assure you that this tutorial will be shorter than you can think.
Create a new document 500 by 100 pixels with a white background.
Now create a new layer and choose the rectangle tool.
In the top bar select the Fill Pixels mode and draw a rectangle of the size you want your navigation bar.
I used the color #8B0808:

Now press CTRL and click on the layer of the bar to select it, it should have flashing borders now.
Create a new layer and select it
Select the Gradient Tool and create this gradient.
The dark red is #B70000 and the light one is #EF2828 (for a detailed overview on the gradient tool see this tutorial :GRADIENT TOOL:

Draw your gradient from the top to the bottom of your selection and you should obtain this effect.

Hit CTRL + D to deselect the actual selection. Choose the Rectangular Marquee Tool and make a small vertical selection about 1 px wide, then hit Select > Edit Selection and rotate it a bit then hit Enter.

Now move the selection where you want your button to finish and press delete.
Do the same for every button in your navigation bar.
Double click the dark red layer and add a 1 pixel black Stroke, as position choose outside.

As you can see the borders of the buttons might be pixelated now, to get rid of this effect select the dark red layer (CTRL + click on the layer in the layers palette) then in the top menu select Filter > Blur > Blur.

Now type your text in the buttons.

I used the font " 04b08 " (you can download it :HERE: ).
Use these settings:

Then double click on the text layer in the layers palette and add a 1 pixel black Stroke, choose outside as position.
Apply this style to all your buttons (you can right click the text layer > Copy Layer Style and then paste it on all your buttons).
Now create a new layer on the top, select white as foreground color, pick the Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle half over the navigation bar, then set its opacity to 30%.
Now CTRL + click the dark red layer. Hit Select > Inverse (CTRL + SHIFT + i ) and press delete to remove the white outsite the bar (it necessary only to avoid the white to overlap the black border).
