hmm the sides still look a little bit "cut out" but its still great none the less.

It depends on how you choose the shape of your rock. In this case you can blur the edges with a small brush.

I'd tried to create the rock, but can't seem to get the surface fine enough, it became rough and the too contrast when I attempt to create the cracks, any more detail explanation on this? or maybe just ignore that step?

If you mean the step when you are using the Burn Tool, set the Range to Midtones and Exposure to 25-50%. Try different values for Exposure and see if you come up with better results.

The Alien Space Ship looks like it was adapted from an actual alien from the Alien Movie? (eg. Alien Resurrection) Looks really effective as a spaceship gj...but i'm probably wrong :)

Great tutorial, I agree that the burning is difficult but your explanation in the comments helps.

i just did this tutorial and I happen to agree with robubie. I also took your advice and blurred the edges and it still looks cut out and obviously blury.

Great tutorials, I like your posters too, very inspiring. Please make a tutorial about the ship. Thank you.

Very nice tutorials all together. I too had to play with it a bit to get the effect I was looking for, but over-all you made it easy. Space ship request for me as well :)

I thought this was a fantastic tutorial. I was able to get the rock effect like I wanted (I use the blur paint brush set at 139, normal, 50% strength) You just have to run it over the edges a couple of times in quick succession in the direction of your light source. I worked with a much smaller rock at first, and graduated to something a lot bigger.

I'd like to build the rest of this picture as I found it again to be really fantastic (though I'm already placing rocks all over the place...lol)

The texture came out amazing! Thanks.

Instead of the Lasso I used the quick selection tool. It gave the rocks a more rugged look.
