PAC the MAN X Icon
This tutorial will teach you how to create a pacman icon from the Mac OS X game: Pac the Man X.

1. First, create a new document. For the purposes of this tutorial, make it 50x50.

2. Next, we want to have a slight gradient on our background layer. Go to your tools pallet, get your gradient tool and put in the following settings:

3. Hit OK and go to your document. Move your Gradient Tool from the bottom to about half way up the document to get something that looks like this:

4. Now, its time to create Pacman. To do so, get the font PACMANIA. Once you have downloaded it and installed it, pull out your text tool.

5. With your text tool, create the letter C at 42pt to get the Pacman Body. It will look similar to the following:

6. Now, we want to insert some blending options to get it to look like pacman. So right click your pacman layer, and choose blending options. Insert the following blending options:

7. After putting in those blending options, you should have something that looks like the following:

8. Now we want to add a small little border around pacman. There are many ways of doing this, but for this tutorial we will be doing it this way.

9. Get your elliptical Marquee tool. Create a selection similar to the following:

*NOTE: Hold the SHIFT key for a perfect circle

10. Now, on a new layer, fill it with #2a2e32. While your still on your newly created layer, create another selection similar to the following:

11. go to EDIT>Clear and you will have your border. On this background, the border doesn't quite stick out enough. So go to your borders blending options and insert the following:

12. Once you have done that, your PACMAN is almost finished. The last thing we want to do is put a nice little shine effect on pacman. To do so, create a new layer above your pacman.

13. Get out your elliptical marquee tool again, and create a selection similar to the following and fill it with #ffffff:

14. Now, go to your layers pallet, and on your pacman text layer, hold CTRL/Command + Click on the layers thumbnail to select pacman.

15. Go back to your "shine" layer, and with your selection still active, hit CTRL+C and then CTRL+V to copy the selection to a new layer. The layer you just copied from can now be deleted.

16. The copied area needs to be moved into place slightly, so use the arrows on your keyboard to line it up with pacman:

17. The only thing left to do now is lower the opacity to around 39%, and you will have your very own PACMAN style icon!
