Theres RED text there? Doh...ok, NOW I see it..yeah, the particular color of red is hard to see...
I could go into the scientific explanation, however...
the color red (as far as reflected light, is one of the longest wavelengths of visable light, therefore it takes longer to reach the rod&cones on your retina. Also your eyes react the least to red light, other colors that are more "striking" such as BLUE [and of course white] make more of an impression and also get your attention faster when placed on a black background)
Just think, the color of the dash lights on most imports and high end cars are red, more pleasing to the eye and less distracting....of course SOME cars have other color lights, but red is the least distracting and therefore the least noticable...
With THAT being said, you could still use RED provided that the text is stroked with maybe yellow or white or some other contrasting color.
Just a few suggestions/explanations

Hum Bright Red on Black Background ? It will be more visible but i think Bright Color will hav a negativ effect. Fear is associated with Dark so Bright colors..hum. Plain red maybe okay but bright red not at all..Thanx for ur coms .

Then there is another way to look at it - Actors attract the movie going public, if Brad Pitt or Jude Law are in a film its more or less guaranteed to make millions. Film bosses are going to throw out any posters where people will have to squint to read who the actors are, in fact a lot of the movie posters that you see nowadays the actors names are more prominant than the film title, because its the main stars that get BUMS ON SEATS not the film title.

First time I looked at it the scaryness of it did not add up... clowns AND deep scary looking woods... that would make for a nightmare! imagine... you hear a twig snap and then *shudders* I would be too much of a wuss to go and see that.
I think the dark red on black might be a good strategy to get people to say "what the heck does that say?" and then have to squint to read it.. but they WILL read it.

Deep red text on a black background dosn't work, never has and never will(unless its stroked with white or a light colour). I wonder if thats why you dont see it very often. A poster needs to jump out at you and get its message across in a second. Deep red text on a black background dosn't jump out. Not everyone will view a movie poster on a bright computer screen high res or not. Dont take my word for it though, print it out and stand a few feet away and see if it jumps out at you.

I will try to do a tutorial soon to explain how to make the stuff at the bottom.
acid.f 29 Jun 2006 @ 05:02
For the stuff at the bottom, i made it manually by using vector text. I used a font called "SF Movie Poster". But i changed values like the Leading and the Kerning. It takes me two hours and an half to finish only the bottom...
For the titles in red, it's well visible if u c the Hi-RES Version.
For the PG-13 uh in fact i'm not in a country where the MPAA ratings are applicables (in France MPAA ratings doesn't exist so i don't know if it's right or not). But it's just a detail.

Gosh, wish I thought of that. Its a movie poster right - if you were moving past it in a car, train, bike etc the deep red text would be difficult to see. A movie poster needs to convey the title and the main protagonists first and foremost, if it dosn't do that then its not effective as a poster.

looks like a real movie movie poster.. I am curious about the stuff at the bottom...and why you made it only PG-13 man c'mon! :P
