I think that things that are this close to symetry, really REALLY need to be symetrical...and if you look at the middle, it really shows up that it is NOT symetrical here...I like the colors and shapes though, but you missed it on the symetry though..
It's a cool concept. However, I think it's obvious that there's some sort of symmetry intended, however, it's not achieved. I wonder if your symmetry could have used a bit more work. I don't think it deserves the "1" you got though.
All in all, nice first attempt.
