Another little tip for you - nothing to do with what you have done here. When you apply a layer style like drop shadow or outer/inner glow etc. you can paste it onto its own layer by going to Layer>Layer Style>Create Layer, this will allow you to alter the layer style without affecting the rest of the image. ie. darken/lighten or erase bits thats not required. Makes things much more flexible. Try it and you'll see what I mean.
