This image was altered in photoshop to look like a drawing and this time I tried to make her look less seductive per rbrice1981 :)

Wacom Graphire is like the entry level pad for the more serious amatuer. It has 512 levels of pressure sensitivity and a resolution of 2000dpi. The pad I have is a Intuos3 A4(cost me £320), it has 1,024 pressure levels and 5,080 lines per inch resolution. The difference between the two is noticable when drawing and painting, but the Intuos surface feels more like drawing on paper, whereas the Graphire's surface is hard and shiny which makes the pen slide around a bit - I used to tape a sheet of paper over the top of the drawing area when I had one.
Drawing and painting on an Intuos is a nice experience, but that's not to say that you can't produce good work on a Graphire - because you can.
The two things I would say to anyone thinking of buying a graphics pad would be - go with Wacom, you cant get better, and buy the biggest pad you can afford - A5 or better still A4. If you are serious about producing digital art, dont be tempted to buy an A6, it will come back to haunt you - wait a little longer and get the bigger one, you'll be glad you did when you've got it.

looks like i'll be waiting a while because they're charging $450 USD for this! Which makes me sad. In the USA - they don't have A3, A4, A5, A6. They just say Intuos3 12x19 for the biggest one. What is the size of yours? (12x19 is in English units, that'd be 30 x 48 cm metric).
Maybe you can just buy one for me Alistair.

Alistair:
Is one graphic pad essentially as good as the next? I know that there are probably features, pros/cons to any given pad as there are with any other electronics/computer device, however, I wonder how much of a difference there is. I see median prices range from $150 - 300 USD.

I wouldn't be without my graphics pad.
The trouble with a graphics pad is that they take a bit of getting used to. I think a lot of people go out and buy one and end up disapointed because they think it's going to be like drawing on a peice of paper, when they find out it's different they cast it aside and go back to using the mouse that they have had loads of practise with - you just have to check out eBay to see how many end up being sold. In truth, a graphics pad is far, far better for most things in graphic art than a mouse will ever be - you just have to give a little bit of time to get used to the way they handle.
If you can find a professional graphic artist that doesn't use one then you have found a very rare beast indeed.

D1e7el: I had not recommended or mentioned a Drawing Pad. That might have been the one and only Alistair. He's the man with the plan. Good luck.

Yes she is.....one of the 2 Apples of my eyes :) I have been meaning to ask you about the drawing tablet you once mentioned. I have never used one and am afraid of purchasing without getting true opinions regarding products like that....Do you have any suggestions? Any recommendations you have would be truly appreciated!
rbrice1981 18 Jan 2007 @ 13:56
hey - it wasn't me who suggested that lol. I thought it was someone else and then I said there are sicko's (and psycho's) out there who see her differently. But much less seductive lol.
Nice effects. This is your princess, isn't it?
