I took a diffrent approach with this picture.
First i started with a rough drawing i made. Then added the colors and effects in Photoshop 5.0.

Alan, not bad for a first try...a few suggestions?
The grasses on the far bank...I would have copied them, then using the transform tool, invert them upside down, and then select the water layer (to get the shape of the pond) and use THAT selection and place on the far grass copied layer that you inverted, and use a water filter to make the grasses reflection look like the little ripples in the reflection. (does that make sense?) anyway, what I am getting at is that your water needs to have some ripples on it, AND the reflection needs to ahve some ripples too (ones that match the water ripples) Keep working on it, you will get it.
