Photoshop Tutorials Textures
In this tutorial I’ll be teaching you how to apply a texture to a portrait (or any other) photograph. Textures are a great resource for all types of designers and illustrators, and can be used in many ways to produce many different effects. They are typically used in photo manipulations, print design and web design.
In this easy to follow tutorial we are going to learn how to texture with layer modes by using clipping masks to constrain the visibility of one layer to that of the layer beneath. In a clipping mask, the bottom most layer acts as a mask for the layers above it. The layers in the group clip to the opaque areas of the base layer and don’t show over the transparent areas of the base layer.
In this tutorial I’ll be teaching you how to create a super grungy texture in Photoshop. You’ll be using several other textures, whether they are your own or someone else’s to create a new, ‘super grungy’ texture that’ll be great for using in all kinds of designs and photo manipulations.
Have you ever seen that wonderful wood like texture or background found on many websites and wanted to know how it is done? This tutorial will teach you a basic but effective way to complete this desired outcome, which would work great as a background.
In this tutorial we will walk through the process of creating a grunge poster. We will cover techniques like creating diamond shaped patterns, knocking out white backgrounds and keeping layer transparency. This tutorial includes a text version as well as a video version. Both cover the same techniques so take what you prefer and enjoy!
Photoshop has a number of texture filters that can be applied directly to an image. If you want to make an image look like it’s painted on a textured surface, don’t apply the texture on the same layer. I have found that a more realistic looking texture can be created by applying the texture to a layer above your image. I’ll show you a trick to accomplish this. I’ll also give you a quick rundown of what each of the texture filters looks like.
